Esther has been collecting books to donate for a community library has been handed more resources after attending a World Book Day. Esther has been working with Colshaw Residents Association to set up the service.
Ms McVey said: “I am passionate about people reading and having access to books. Not only does it help children learn but are a source of enjoyment for so many. My office has been collecting donations over the past few months and we now have a substantial number of books which I know people will enjoy.”
Ms McVey met with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson on World Book Day to tell him of plans for the community library.
Ms McVey said: “Gavin was pleased to hear about our plans for the community library and wished us well with it. He shares my passion to ensure everyone has access to books and I now have another eight books given to me by the charity, which I will be adding to the collection in the office. I know how much this means to the residents in Colshaw and I look forward to visiting the library when it is up and running.”
World Book Day is a charity with the mission of giving every child and young person a book of their own.
According to new research by the National Literacy Trust just 26 per cent of under 18s read every day and 53 per cent said they enjoyed reading – the lowest level since 2013.
