Tatton MP Esther McVey has thrown her weight behind the campaign to get the UK travel industry re-opened.
She met with pilots, cabin crew, airport staff and constituents yesterday (WED) at a protest in Westminster over Coronavirus travel restrictions.
Government has been accused of failing to deliver an efficient system for travel and sending mixed messages with its traffic light system.
Ms McVey said: “My team and I were pleased to meet a number of constituents during the whole afternoon who work within the industry and shared their frustration at the current situation. I am mindful that Manchester Airport borders the constituency and as a result many of my constituents work within travel or allied industries reliant on the travel sector.”
No major destinations are on the quarantine-free green list and Government has advised people not to holiday to countries on the amber list.
It estimates that 195,000 travel jobs have been lost or at risk due to the pandemic.
ABTA the leading association of travel agents and tour operators, who organised the event, wants more countries added to the green list and fully vaccinated people not to have to quarantine when returning from green or amber countries. In addition, it wants a package of tailored financial support, including extension of furlough until April 2022 to allow the industry to get back on its feet.
